The tastefully decorated spacious Cottage has 2 bedrooms, both en-suite (showers only) and sleeps 4 people. The Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with all the creature comforts needed, including a Nespresso Machine. The beautiful spacious, covered deck creates a holiday atmosphere second to none.
The braai area is sheltered and cozy with comfortable seating and a bar fridge.
The Cottage also includes a washing machine, tumble dryer, full DSTV bouquette, DVD Player and WiFi.
The nostalgia of a lighthouse is unmistakable and while enjoying a sun downer on the deck, our guests are able to enjoy picturesque views of ocean, shore, dunes and lighthouse. The area is known for its 4 x 4 routes and also has incredible areas for jogging and cycling.
Hondeklipbaai is a convenient stopover en-route to Namibia from the Cape but, there is abundantly more to this sleepy little town.
Namaqualand is one of South-Africa’s proudest and probably most endearing assets. It is rich with history, culture and beauty, desperate to be discovered. While visiting Hondeklipbaai, make sure to visit the Namaqua National Park. The Park’s main attraction, undoubtedly, would be during Spring when the wildflowers bloom there in a spectacular fashion. Namaqualand also has a wealth of wild-life including Gemsbok, Ostrich, Springbok, Meerkat and a vast array of sea life along the coast including Whales, Dolphins, Penguins and Seals. Bird and plant lovers will be amazed at the abundant variety of vibrant life that is sustained in this ostensibly barren landscape. The unpredictable Atlantic is littered with ship wrecks and, the skeletal remains of one particular shipwreck, The Aristea, is stranded on the shores of Hondeklipbaai and is easily accessible.
Dogstone Cottage is proudly owned and run by the Aldridge family. As is the dream of many, we have always hankered after a life at the coast and we were fortunate enough to make this dream a reality. Having been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, we have taken a lot of care to ensure that our guest’s every need is met and that they leave Hondeklipbaai with a deep love and better understanding of this soulful place. We are very excited to welcome you and share with you what we believe is a very special and unique little coastal town.
Hondeklipbaai is approximately 6 hours north of Cape Town and all the roads to the town lead off the N7. A generous amount of gravel road travelling is involved when travelling to Hondeklipbaai and although the roads are regularly maintained, corrugations can and do develop. The road is generally more comfy in a vehicle with higher ground clearance such as an SUV, bakkie or 4x4.
There are a couple of restaurants in the town, some seasonal. There are also a number of small, general dealer shops where guests will be able to buy the essentials as well as a liquor store.
We are environmentally conscious and in an effort to reduce our footprint, we have implemented energy and water saving systems. Though we have access to grid electricity, we are also 100% solar efficient. In addition, we use recycled water to irrigate our gardens which affords us the ability to enjoy the splendour of the Namaqua flora and an active bird population throughout the year. Our showers and cisterns are both water-saving equipped and we have energy efficient heating systems.
